About Elly

Elly Hunt is a costume designer, craftsperson and stitcher working in the Chicago area.

She studied theatrical design and technology at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Right now you can see her work as the Costume Designer for Creede Repertory Theatre's Ripcord until August 26th, and her work as a stitcher at Lookingglass Theatre Company’s Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein until August 4th. She is currently a designer and mentor on Creede’s KID Show Workshop. Next she will be teaching Creede Rep Education department’s first design class, Heros and Villains. Her other recent credits include working as the wardrobe supervisor for Victory Gardens Pipeline, Rightlynd, and Indecent and working as assistant costume designer to Izumi Inaba for Chicago Children’s Theatre’s The Watsons Go To Birmingham- 1963.

Elly has been designing since her senior year of high school, and involved in all facets of theatre and sewing since early childhood. Inspirational artists and designers include Salvador Dali, Elsa Schiaparelli, Zuhair Murad, and Jean-Guy Lecat. Her true passion, however, lies in the collaborative process, whether that means making a designer's vision a reality, making a character "real" for an actor with their costume, or teaching new skills and creating opportunities for young artists; theatre is best done as a team.
